Russia unleashed one of its most devastating overnight assaults on Ukrainian cities in recent months, firing a barrage of missiles and drones that tore through residential neighbourhoods and left emergency crews scrambling to pull survivors from the rubble. Ukrainian officials confirmed that at least 14 people were killed and dozens more were injured in the strikes, which targeted multiple regions simultaneously in the early hours of Tuesday.
Cities Across Ukraine Hit Simultaneously
The attacks sent residents racing for shelter as air raid sirens wailed throughout the night. Rescue teams worked by torchlight to reach people feared trapped beneath collapsed buildings, with excavators clearing debris while medical personnel tended to the wounded on the streets. Authorities warned the death toll could rise as search and rescue operations continued into the morning hours.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the strikes in a statement, calling the assault a deliberate attempt to terrorise civilians and erode the country’s resolve. Widespread power outages were reported across affected areas as critical infrastructure sustained significant damage. Utility repair crews were deployed alongside emergency responders, though authorities cautioned that full restoration of services would take considerable time.
The scale of the assault drew swift condemnation from European leaders. Several governments called for an emergency review of security commitments to Kyiv, while NATO described the bombardment as a stark illustration of Russia’s continued aggression and the pressing need for sustained allied support.
